We asked our Scouts what Scouting means to them. Joseph Chauke of the 1st Sidlamafa Troop in the Nkomazi district had this to say:-
“Scouting to me is more than just a youth organization that empowers us. Here you make friends who become more than just troop mates. They become your pillar of strength and motivation. They become a family which you can always count on at all times.I have made friends in Scouting whom I know I can always rely on even at the eleventh hour.
We have all been brought together by our promise and our laws. The Scouting family can always be counted on to be there for me whenever I need them.
That is why being a Scout is a bundle of joy.
Scouting helps me live a positive lifestyle and avoid stress. Through the patrol system I also play a role in the development of my fellow patrol mates. I know that I should always be my best because if I do not represent myself well in my community, it does not only reflect on me ,but my patrol and troop as well. Knowing that allows me to strive all the time to help other scouts to be their best as well.
I also learn how to take care of my elders and to serve my community. A big portion of the Scout Promise encourages us to help others at all times. Therefore I always strive to serve in my community and be of use with fellow Scouts
